PLACES TO VISIT IN LADAKH

Pangong Lake

A magical place where you can find heaven, peace and silence. The vast expanded blue crystal water and high peaks is an amazing view for your eyes. It is at an elevation of 14,270 feet and Pangong Lake is also known as Pongong Tso. This lake is one of the popular attractions of Ladakh. The scenic view of this lake is a breathtaking view, during winter season the lake turns rock solid and becomes the venue for the ice skating festival. Pangong Lake will offer amazing things like ice skating, bonfire at the camp, indulge in Bird watching and capture the beautiful view of sunset with your cameras.  From June to September is the perfect time to visit this lake. And when you have seen movies like 3 idiots, Sanam Re, Dil Se and Heros you wouldn’t have missed pangong lake at the backdrop.

Magnetic Hill

The enchanting hill of Ladakh have more than merely beauty to offer. The hill is situated at a height of 11,000 feet above the sea level. There is an interesting mystery in this Hill , you can drive without fuel i.e, A vehicle driving up the hill get pulled up of their own vehicle. One can drive up here even by turn offing the vehicle. The theory behind this phenomena is that it is  actually an optical illusion resulting from the hills gravitational pull. The phenomenon is definitely a sensation for people and attracts hundreds of tourists every month. So experience this interesting phenomena by visiting Ladakh. The best time to visit this place is during the month of May to September.

Khardung La Pass

Considered as one of the popular places in Ladakh, Khardung la pass falling under the Leh district in Ladakh is at a height of 17,582 feet. This route is the most famous bike trip route in India. This was the highest motor-able pass in the world until 2013 – 2014. This pass is the main way for villages like Shyok and Nubra from Leh. The oxygen level is low here so it is advisable to not stay at this pass for more than 30 minutes  and must keep your eyes covered to save them from heavy winds.

The pass is mesmerized with the beauty of the mighty Himalayan Mountains and everything looks surreal.  March-May and September-October are the best times to visit Khardung La pass.

Nubra Valley

Nubra valley is one of the most beautiful places, known for its Orchards, scenic vistas, Bactrian camels, and monasteries. It is the northernmost part of Ladakh situated about 150 km from Leh.  Its original name was called Ldumra which meant the valley of flowers. The Nubra valley is at an altitude of 10334 feet above the sea level, it is a deep-cut gorge created by the combined effects of Shyok and Nubra rivers.  One of the major specialities was Diskit monastery; it is the largest gompa in the valley and it was built in the fifteenth century . It will offer you  a spectacular view of the valley. A gigantic tall statue of Maitreya Buddha is located a few hundreds meters away from the monastery.  For  experiencing  the best time in Nubra you can visit in April – June , and September – October.

Shey Monastery

Shey monastery, a beautiful and artistic place, was built in 1655 in the memory of Deldan Namgyal, his late father, Sengge Namgyal. Shey attracts many travelers because it is famous for its giant copper with gilded gold statue of a seated Shakyamuni Buddha. It is known to be the second largest statue in Ladakh.  Buddhism followers are attracted to this place from across the world. Several illustrations, paintings, and beautiful art pieces are also a major attraction of this place.  Shey Monastery is located on a hillock in shey , 15 km to the south of Leh in Ladakh. The best time to visit Shey is between July and August.
